Indications
All diseases of the respiratory tract connected to mucous secretion.
Adjunctive mucolytic therapy in patient with abnormal or viscid mucous secretions in such conditions as:
Chronic bronchopulmonary diseases e.g.
- Chronic emphysema
- Chronic asthmatic bronchitis
- Tuberculosis
- Bronchiectasis
- Primary amyloidosis of the lung
- Acute bronchopulmonary disease e.g
- Pneumonia
- Bronchitis
- Tracheobronchitis
Acetylcysteine Contradictions
Contradictions are diseases or circumstances under which certain drugs much is not applied or only after careful examination by the physician as the expected benefit is not in a favorable relation to the possible damage.
Acetylcysteine Uses
This medication is used to prevent liver damage from acetaminophen overdose.
How to use Acetylcysteine Tablet, Effervescent
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking acetylcysteine. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication only by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually every 4 hours for the number of prescribed doses. The dosage is based on your weight, medical condition and response to treatment.
Dissolve the prescribed number of tablets in water. If you weigh more than 42 pounds (19 kilograms) but less than 132 pounds (60 kilograms), use 5 ounces or 150 milliliters of water. If you weigh 132 pounds or more, use 10 ounces or 300 milliliters. After the tablets are fully dissolved, drink the solution right away. Once dissolved in water, this medication should be taken within 2 hours.
If you weigh 42 pounds or less, ask your doctor how much water you should use to dissolve the tablets. Follow your doctor’s directions and carefully measure the prescribed dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose.
Tell your doctor if you vomit within 1 hour after taking your medication. You may need to take another dose.
Remember to take each of the prescribed doses of this medication to get the most benefit from it.
Acetylcysteine Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: severe stomach/abdominal pain, black stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Acetylcysteine Precautions
Before taking acetylcysteine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: bleeding in your esophagus, stomach/intestinal problems (such as ulcers).
This medication contains sodium. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are on a salt-restricted diet or if you have a condition that could get worse if you eat more salt (such as heart failure, high blood pressure).
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication.
It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Acetylcysteine Dosage Instructions
Unless otherwise directed adult should take 1 effervescent tablet daily, preferable in the evening.
The duration of the treatment is depending on the clinical picture.
Incase of chronic diseases NAC Long is applied over longer periods of time or in treatment cycles of several months. The effervescent tablet should be taken dissolved in ½ glass of water and should be administered before the meals, preferably in the evening
